Use a skip-level, peer lead, or earlier manager who saw the work. Tell them what the role needs. Never invent a reference. If they insist on current-manager contact, ask to delay until the offer is real.
If you are stuck after the accepted steps, collect the exact error text and timestamp before you contact support. Vague tickets bounce.
